My Blogging Journey

Strawberry Singh’s Meme this week is a follow up to one she did a year ago. I took part in that one, it was called the Why Do I Blog? Meme, so I thought I would take part in this one too.

The new one is called “My Blogging Journey” Meme and my answers appear on my virtual issues blog, Journey To the Center Of The Metaverse…

Procrastination Meme

This is Strawberry Singh’s Procrastination Meme. When you read the questions, you might wonder why she called it that. Here is her explanation…

I had another meme planned for today, but since I have been procrastinating so much the past week, I figured this would be a better choice instead. I’ll do what I had in mind for today next week. We all procrastinate from time to time. I’m actually a professional procrastinator but that’s not entirely my fault you see, I’m easily distracted. This meme isn’t really about procrastinating though, or how you procrastinate. This meme is just to make you procrastinate even further from what you had planned for today (or this week). 😛

These questions appeared on Strawberry’s site on March 18. I was going to answer the Procrastination Meme back then but — wait for it — I kept putting it off.

(Rimshot)

LOL! I always love that joke!

Ok, let’s get serious now…

1. What is the rez date for your current SL Avatar that you use most often?

July 21, 2007

2. Where was the first place you made friends as a newb and got to know people in Second Life?

I explored so much, moved around constantly in my first days. Only had a couple hangouts where I would stop to organize my inventory, read notecards, search for other places to explore. One regular stop was a pub in Mathew Street, a Liverpool sim dedicated to The Beatles. There were several pubs but I favored the one that played Irish music. I think another was Rustica, whatever the sim was called then. There was a large pub there at the time which I really loved. (Now the Rustica sim is part of Winterfell!) In both pubs I would chat with anyone that came in.

3. Where do you spend most of your SL time now?

In my little cabin in the north woods  of Winterfell.

I once owned three Mainland regions. Later I downsized. But I had several homes and offices scattered about the Steamlands. Then I traded all that in for a homestead in Winterfell. Then I downsized again. I have this one little cabin on a tiny parcel in a writers and artists colony and a parcel for my Storytellers Pub in southern Winterfell. That’s it. Oh, and one Mainland 512 for my alts to call home until my premium membership runs out at the end of the summer, not renewing. (I do have four regions on Kitely grid but that costs less than my meager SL holdings.)

4. Who is your closest friend in Second Life? (only pick one)

I must pick two – and even that is not fair. Listed in alphabetical order.

Eleanor Banx and Robyn Pastorelli

5. What is the most favorite thing in your inventory? (only pick one)

Never ever thought of this before so it is very difficult. I suppose it’s a tossup, I’m picking three! A building – The Evergreen Pub. Built by TeaTone Catteneo in 2008. It was the first build I commissioned. Tea did an updated version of it as a gift for me in 2011. I have also made a hybrid of the two versions. The Evergreen has been my pub until just recently. It’s in moth balls now as I have a new pub, mentioned above. But I hope it will come back some day. Another object is an old radio made by Fox Reinsch of IndieSpectrum Radio. But I removed his scripts and notecards and replaced them with another favorite item, a killer radio system created by my old and dear friend Dreadsta Rendelstein, who sadly has not been in SL for a long time.

6. The last thing you purchased in Second Life?

Purple Rugs by Gothic’s Muse. Purchased in the Steampunk sim while visiting the Joy of Steampunk Museum. I forget what I paid but it was a good deal. 1-prim texture changing rugs, 12 textures each.. Bought two versions. A total of 24 different carpet choices, all purple!

7. What color clothing does your avatar wear most often?

Purple and Black.

Purple is the national color of Winterfell and I’m the Winterfell Ambassador. Need I say more?

8. Do you prefer to walk, run or fly?

Walk.

9. What is the craziest thing you’ve ever done in SL?

I’d rather not give her name.

10. Who would you like to play YOU, in the movie of your SLife?

Johnny Depp. Think of him as a 19th-century time traveller, Victorian attire sans cravat, rather dashing. Got the picture? Yes, Johnny Depp is my choice.

Communications Meme

Here is this week’s meme from Strawberry Singh. I like to read her meme articles but actually taking part is a new thing for me. I did it once before on one of my other blogs because it fit the moment. It appeared on my virtual issues–virtual living blog, Journey To The Center Of The Metaverse. A couple weeks later I was putting together another post for that blog and it hit me that it would be a good meme so I asked other bloggers to try it. I haven’t heard yet from anyone who did so maybe I’d better leave the meme creation to Strawberry and just answer hers when inspiration hits me. As it did today.

Who did you speak to last inworld today?

I’m answering these questions first thing in the morning so I have to apply this one to yesterday as I haven’t logged in yet – and I honestly can’t remember!

Who has taught you most about SL?

The question, as asked, was very difficult to answer. I could name a few but could not pick just one from that group. But as soon as I changed it from SL to VW, I knew the answer – Dot Macchi. We met in Winterfell in SL in 2010 and she introduced me to RP writing. Later, I wanted to visit the sims Dot was developing on OSgrid and that is when I began visiting other worlds. At the end of last year I had heard about Kitely from another friend and then found out Dot had been moving her project* there. And so I went to Kitely to get involved in that project and then my explorations of other grids began in earnest.

* Dot’s project is The Devokan Trust and its Myst/Uru-inspired sims. Go to Kitely and check them out!

Who do you turn to for help?

It depends on the issue, of course. I would go to a friend with expertise on whatever the matter was. But in general, if it is an SL issue that I have never encountered before, I ask Serra Anansi, Lady Twilight, head of the Winterfell estate. And if it is a question about something OpenSim, I ask Dot Macchi.

Who is the most entertaining person on your friend list?

Addison Greymyst. Hands down. I have known Addison in SL for about three years. We talk in IM every week or two and he never fails to make me laugh.

Do you speak to your SL friends outside of SL?

I talk to a few friends I know from inworld via email but. very few. Then there are the VW friends I know from social media but whom I’ve never met inworld! Just recently I met a few of them “in person” for the first time at the WB party for Metropolis grid. It was really fun!

Are you part of a community or family inworld?

I live in Winterfell and serve as Ambassador. I am also an active participant in the Victorian Steampunk subculture in SL.

In a broader sense, I am a part of the community of people who like to visit multiple grids. I realize this is not what the questioner had in mind but this is very much a “community.” We help each other with info and advice. Though this is mostly through social media, it directly impacts our inworld lives.

Are you usually around a lot of people or do you spend most of your time alone inworld?

My main inworld activities are writing and exploring. (Yes, I sit in my little cabin in Winterfell and put on some music and write.) Both are things I do alone. But I do socialize as well, whether it’s attending an event or meeting a friend at a pub to chat.

Thanks for another great meme, Strawberry. They really do get one thinking.
